The form of this gold granulation ring is inspired by the pyramidal rings in the Sutton Hoo hoard found in England. The base is an Eastern repousse pyramid that is forged out of one sheet of sterling silver with no seams. Upon the pyramid are organically formed sections of 18k gold fused granulation that draw the eye upward to the apex of the pyramid, a 22k gold bezel set pyramidal, pink tourmaline, surrounded by 22k gold granules. The 18k gold granulation of the shank echoes the undulating designs of the ring’s top.

Russian filigree band
sterling silver, fine silver

This Dinner Ring harkens to an era of glamorous cocktail rings and long white evening gloves. The root beer obsidian is faceted to show off it’s magical, clear, deep orange glow and is set in a 22k gold bezel that allows light to penetrate it from all sides. The fine silver, Russian filigree is framed by 18k yellow gold to bring out the stone’s color. The bezel’s unique cage and shank are fabricated of sterling silver to reflect light, reduce weight, and add to the laciness of the structure. 1-5/16″ x 1″ x 1″, size 6.5 (This ring can be sized up or down up to one full size.)

Gilding, illumination, flourishing, and Carolingian calligraphy on handmade paper
23k gold leaf, Japanese stick inks, finetec gouache, pastel, Twin Rocker Calligraphy Cream paper (matted in black archival matboard)

This miniature painting is based on a photograph I took of a very serious meerkat on sentry duty at Zoo Atlanta. She was quite suspicious of the humans circling her home. For her portrait, I set her within a Medieval style, acanthus leaf, foliate frame, painted with watercolor and accented by 23k gold gilding and inked filigree on animal skin vellum. While one might not expect a Medieval meerkat, it was quite common during the Middle Ages and Renaissance for all types of animals, real or imagined, to appear woven within such page borders of hand illuminated manuscript books. I decided this precious and dignified, yet whimsical creature warranted her very own fairy tale setting.
