Radiant Echoes: The Metal Mastery of Victoria Lansford showcases the artist’s journey through over three decades of ground-breaking applications of historical metalsmithing techniques. This retrospective publication comprehensively not only explores Lansford’s endless ability with complex metalsmithing techniques including filigree, Eastern repoussé, and granulation, but also speaks to how her skill and vision marry in the creation of objects that filters tradition through a contemporary lens. Simultaneously an artist, alchemist, and shaman, Lansford brings together the familiar with the unexpected through creative work that rethinks the millennia-old practice of turning raw materials into precious objects.
The book features over 150 images of art jewelry, art objects, and large-scale metalwork drawn from across Lansford’s career as well as a comprehensive glossary of her techniques used, offering a unique opportunity for readers to explore the evolution of Lansford’s creativity and craftsmanship. Radiant Echoes will make a fantastic addition to the library of anyone who loves jewelry, sculpture, metalsmithing, or simply contemplating beautiful objects.
Radiant Echoes includes new essays by curators, scholars, and artists including Kate Bonansinga, Cynthia Eid, Rauni Higson, Elyse Zorn Karlin, Victoria Lansford, and Jane Milosch, with consulting editor Emily Zilber.

Eastern repoussé and keum boo cuff bracelet, a three-dimensional interpretation of stylized Art Nouveau rose designs

Swirling petal forms wrap the finger to conjure the depth of a rose and the feel of La Belle Époque. This Eastern repoussé and scrollworked ring is free-hand forged from 18 karat gold sheet fused to a sterling silver backing, providing the warm color of gold with the lightness and stability of sterling in the lacy shank and beneath the relief work.
Fits US ring sizes 7.5 to 8 (may be enlarged 1/2 size up); 1.4″ long x .8 wide x 1.2″ from back of shank to top of front

Naturally colored, freshwater and Biwa pearls symbolized the pebbles of a beach in this tapered necklace, continuously handwoven of pure silver.

Genuine freshwater and Biwa pearls symbolized the pebbles of a beach in this tapered necklace, continuously handwoven of pure silver.

Eastern repousse neckpiece of sterling silver with wax pigment, inspired by a bouquet of spring tulips
The leaves articulate to create a gentle curve around the neck. The center section was hammered from one single sheet and took over 120 hours of refined hand hammering to achieve the detail of the overlapping petals and leaves.
Permanent, pigmented wax in the recessed areas and finely chased lines adds a subtle hint of color. The result is durable and imminently wearable. Because of the tensile strength of the Eastern repousse technique, the necklace is surprising lightweight and comfortable.

Earrings of Eastern repousse patterned mokume gane with French tools
sterling silver, fine silver, copper, shibuichi, carnelian
These earrings are very lightweight! To create their unusual surface design, I blended the ancient technique of Eastern repoussé with the Japanese technique of mokume gane. I did all of the free-hand hammering with unpatterned mokume gane, a fused sheet made from layers of sterling, copper, and shibuichi. Once I had finished the Eastern repoussé, I ground the surface hammer marks to expose the resulting cross section of the different metals. The richness of the patina adds to the glow of the carnelian cabochons.
