This truly unique, kinetic ring is designed to let the wearer examine the Koroit opal inside, one sliver of light at a time. I first got the idea for this structure from watching the motorized roof at the Fernbank Observatory move with the telescope. Fernbank is unique in that offers the larges telescope (36”) open to the public, east of the Missippi River. My passion for astronomy goes all the way to my childhood desire to be an astronaut. While my path certainly took a different route, I find connections to the night sky through my designs and my materials. All the metals were once cooked in a stellar nursery.
