I hear so many women say they love beautiful earrings but think can’t wear them because of the weight. I purposely make earrings as light as possible even when they make a statement. People area always delightfully surprised when they pick up any of my earrings, expecting them to be heavy only to find they are quite light.
Still, at some point, gravity gets the better of many of us. As for so much of my work, there is a trick. Amazon and other retailers sell small stickers that invisibly adhere to the back of the earlobe and support posts or even French hooks. Whether gravity has struck here too, or you just like a little support when you’re spinning your fabulous bling on the dance floor, these stickers will solve the issue. They even work for people with torn lobes.
In my early days as a metalsmith, the earrings I made were dramatically huge, long, and heavy…and then I went dancing in a pair. As they swung around to George Michael (Hey, it was 1989. Cut me some slack.), I could feel the mistake I’d be paying for for years to come. Though I made making light earrings a priority in my work right after that, some things, like my earlobes (and my back) don’t bounce back. Earrings are the one thing I cannot leave the house without! Well, ok…and pants, but I feel just as naked without the earrings so I’ve used these stickers for years to prevent further gravitational pull.
Now you too can wear what you like whether you’re cutting a rug, chasing a toddler, running a business, or just being fabulously you.
