“Translating Jewelry Techniques to Larger Scales” in the Spring, 2019 Issue of Metalsmith Tech

My article in Metalsmith Tech is about the endless possibilities and inevitable challenges of working large with nonferrous metals. It covers the Turtle Pocket Doors for a large media screen and the Etched double-sided room divider for the main salon of the same superyacht, plus the Eastern repousse, mokume gane artwork I created for the cover of my latest book, Giving Voice.

If you’re a SNAG member, you can log onto their website and watch the full version of the cover animation for Giving Voice. It spans the 3 year process of flat sheet to puffed out Eastern repousse relief and the patterning process of the mokume gane all in less than 2 minutes.
I’m excited to be part of the magazine! Its existence is the culmination of years of volunteer work I did for SNAG to help preserve for posterity the enormous knowledge within our field. I deeply appreciate being invited by former editor Emily Zilber to write this article. All the best to their new editor Adriane Dalton to continue both magazines’ exciting changes.
