The Online School of Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design
It’s official! I don’t just teach courses, workshops, and masterclasses. I have my own school.
Technically, it’s been official for a while, but after many months of work behind the scenes, I’ve assembled all the pieces, fused the foundation, soldered the connections, forged the materials, and sanded like mad to present my school’s shiny polished face to the world.

The Story You May Not Know about Filigree

Filigree for the Contemporary Studio Jeweler: Make the World a More Beautiful Place
It’s lacy. It’s delicate, it’s feminine, and for much of the 20th century, in many cultures, it fell out of favor. I’m talking about filigree. When I began teaching in in 1996, I was shocked to discover that no one in the U.S. wanted to learn it. Filigree was considered too difficult, too fussy, too traditional, too feminine, and too hard to do fast enough to earn a living creating it. Fortunately, I never let that stop me from making the work I loved. My own aesthetic and ambition pushed me to create things that hadn’t been done with it before, to bring it into the late 20th and then 21st century without compromising its delicacy, femininity, or integrity. I exhibited my work nationally, and filigree caught on.
Throughout the nineties and into the early 2000s, I taught it to hundreds of students. In 2006 I released one of the earliest metalsmithing DVDs on the technique, and the results shocked me. The DVD sold over 3000 copies around the world, and I received countless emails from people thanking me for making the process available for them to learn. Most importantly for my students is that I know how to make a difficult process achievable and fun. I’m extremely proud to have brought filigree back from near extinction by teaching and mentoring other metalsmiths who love it too.
My Beginning Russian Filigree Online Course features over 5 hours of detailed demonstrations to watch and work along side at your own pace and over 7 hours of live coaching Q&A time with me via Zoom that are also recorded for watching later. You can get your questions answered daily on the course dashboard between live sessions. Best of all, you’ll have 4 months of access to all the demos, recordings, and my support, so you’ll have plenty of time to work, learn, and create.
I look forward to helping you become part of the filigree lineage!
