When was the last time you felt truly, deeply heard by another person?
We can share on social media about what’s new. We can scroll and “like” each others’ posts, but our messages, often so important to us, are quickly lost in all the clatter.
Do you feel disconnected?
In a world based on connectivity, it can be incredibly difficult to feel deeply connected to each other, to have someone else truly understand our biggest dreams and also our worst nightmares.
The time and consideration we give to each other are the most precious gifts we can offer, and when we give them unconditionally, we change people’s lives. When was the last time you listened deeply to someone else?
GV is about putting these questions into multi-media art to create a new kind of book, something that has never been done before, in order to share with the world how our gifts can make a difference.
What happens when you mix ancient Egyptian art, Medieval illumination, metalsmithing, digital animation, and jazz?
A musical, illuminated manuscript in motion.
Giving Voice is a multi-touch art book about the connections we form and how they can dramatically change our paths. The narrative traces the story of how the childhood gift of a board game came to ignite the author’s passion for ancient Egypt and send her on a truly different life journey as an artist.
The book’s unique and original artwork encompasses mixed media and gilded paintings with hand lettered calligraphy. The cover was created in the ancient technique of Eastern repousse combined with the Japanese technique of mokume gane. In this multi-touch Apple Book edition, the artwork comes alive with stunningly vibrant animations set to elegant, rhythmic jazz piano and a stop animation of the cover’s three-year progress from flat sheet to dimensional sculpture. The painstakingly hand-lettered pages expand to allow the viewer to explore the artwork in exceptional detail, and Victoria reads that calligraphic texts on each page to create a truly one-of-a-kind experiential book.
In an age of clamoring haste and three-second sound bites, Giving Voice arrives like the fall of cool rain in the desert…a sweet and gentle relief. It’s a book of elegant proportion, slow sweeping movement and beautiful composition…
