These earrings, along with a few other pieces from the same period, were inspired by Ella Fitzgerald’s version of the song, “Midnight Sun,” composed by Lionel Hampton and Sonny Burke in 1947 with lyrics later written by Johnny Mercer in 1954. I have a deep love of jazz songs written in a minor key and on a descending scale.

The root beer obsidian is faceted to show off it’s magical, clear, deep orange glow and is set in a 22k gold bezel that allows light to penetrate it from all sides. The fine silver, Russian filigree is framed by 18k yellow gold to bring out the stone’s color. The bezel’s unique cage and shank are fabricated of sterling silver to reflect light, reduce weight, and add to the laciness of the structure. 1-5/16″ x 1″ x 1″, size 6.5 (This ring can be sized up or down up to one full size.)
