Menagerie – Wild and Wonderful…with Earrings
I’m thrilled to have my work in 2 wildly diverse exhibits a the moment. ‘Good girls’ are supposed to comply with what is expected of them. Compliant artists are supposed to do one thing, do it well and different but not too outside the box, but new, but safe…according to, but unspoken by, many gallerists who want to sell the artists’ work. ‘Good artists’ step outside the box, but not too far or they’ll have a branding problem…
Whatever…
That’s boring!
Both my imminently wearable but stunningly-outside-the-box earrings and my Medieval-style miniature are currently on exhibit.
Casablanca IX, Spellbound III, and Envisioned II are part of Pocosin Arts Wear/Ware exhibit of (mostly) metal earrings and ceramic vessels.
Harriet is part of Menagerie – Wild and Wonderful at The Contemporary Arts Exchange. Harriet is a Medieval style miniature of a beautiful giraffe with whom I spent some time at Sand Diego Zoo a couple of years ago. She graciously posed for a number of photos on which I based the portrait. Getting her unique and characteristic spots correct was about as time consuming as all the filigree in the three pairs of earrings combined. Fortunately, I could work on her as I traveled and taught around the planet in 2017 and 2018. As giraffes go, she was exceptionally portable.
