The Compelling Devotion to Metal & Passing on Skills
I’m super excited, and quite chuffed, to share that my monograph Radiant Echoes: The Metal Mastery of Victoria Lansford received a fabulous review from Ariana Bishop in the most recent issue of ADORNMENT, THE MAGAZINE OF JEWELRY & RELATED ARTS™.
“Radiant Echoes: The Metal Mastery of Victoria Lansford offers a thoughtful chronicle of an artist who has spent her career at the intersection of tradition and experimentation. Best known for her mastery of ancient techniques like Eastern repoussé, Russian filigree, and granulation, Lansford doesn’t simply replicate history—she reimagines it, coaxing metal into forms that are at once technically rigorous and unmistakably her own.”

with Modern Innovation” by Cynthia Eid p.162-163
“For practitioners, educators, and students of technique-driven art, Radiant Echoes offers a compelling look at an artist who has built an impressive and multifaceted career around her devotion to metal. It is a reminder of what can happen when historical technique meets personal vision—when ornament becomes narrative, and craft becomes choreography.”

Both the 3D filigree necklaces Entwine VI and Ensparkled are examples of how much I push the technique of filigree to defy the laws of physics. This sculptural filigree process I pioneered is one of the things I most love to teach because, in continually breaking new ground in a centuries-old metalsmithing technique, I’ve opened up whole worlds for my students to expand their own horizons and receive accolades for furthering their journeys.
The ability to defy physics in this way, however, requires a firm foundation in how to form filler and frame shapes into well constructed Russian filigree.
