Time for a New Rose
As promised in the last post…
Voila! Recently completed, wearable artwork!
Swirling petal forms wrap the finger to conjure the depth of a rose and the feel of La Belle Époque. This Eastern repoussé and scrollworked ring is free-hand forged from 18 karat gold sheet fused to a sterling silver backing, providing the warm color of gold with the lightness and stability of sterling in the lacy shank and beneath the relief work.
Fits US ring sizes 7.5 to 8 (may be enlarged 1/2 size up)
1.4″ long x .8 wide x 1.2″ from back of shank to top of front, height of ring top from gold top’s edge to when worn .36″
The idea came about when I was experimenting with ribbony, Art Nouveau style flourishes. I wanted to increase the dimensional drama with the overlapping shapes and to play with altering the overall structure’s shape during the repousse process. The concept evolved into both the ring and the cuff bracelet I designed in my Eastern Repoussé II: Rings & Cuffs online course demonstrations and led to the complex details of the more representational roses I taught in my Extended Eastern Repoussé Online Course.
