An Interstellar Ring Ready for Orbit
Before my recent and brief studio escape last month, I finished two more rings that I showed in-progress a few newsletters ago.
I chose to mix the traditional cameo shape of the ring top’s elliptical dome with the wild, inward and back out motion of spiral galaxies in the shank’s structure. The granulation on the top is where my love of Anglo-Saxon style granulation and Art Nouveau swirls meet. Once I saw the negative shapes that I’d created with the interweaving lines of granules, I couldn’t resist highlighting them with gold and a colorful patina.
I used my hydraulic press with a Bonny Doon Silhouette Die to form the elliptical dome prior to doing the granulation so the ring would have more dimension.
