For these pieces I combined a technique that I used to do a lot of in the early 2000's, acid etched copper clad silver, with Eastern repousse. I created the repousse out of bi-metal sheet and then painted a resist onto the surface with a pointed pen nib to create all the flourishes and leaf designs. I chemically etched the bi-metal to remove the copper from everywhere that there was no resist. Finally, I patinated the remaining copper with chemicals and shellac and coated the pieces with lacquer that is specially made for metal.

topography in my repoussé
work (hammered relief from a single sheet of metal) is the
aesthetic result of pushing the technique farther and higher.
Ever obsessed with pyramidal shapes, in the late 1990's
I began experimenting with creating relief shapes on top
of the relief, something seemingly few artists have attempted.
When asked which is my favorite technique, I usually reply
that it's whatever technique I'm working in at the time,
but I must admit there is really nothing more satisfying
than hammering out these surfaces.
