Encircled IV

These Russian filigree earrings are based on one of my favorite calligraphic hands, Fraktur. Fraktur is an often highly flourished variation of German Blackletter that is characterized by flame like segments, bold curves, and spiked verticals. I love looking at the style as much as I love lettering in it probably because its curving flamelike shapes are the same as the shapes I've incorporated since my earliest metalsmithing days. Moving from metal to ink back to metal has made me love them even more.
